Coventry Health Care Medicare Advantage Plans

Coventry Medicare Advantage plans available in major markets only2013 Button

Medicare Advantage providers can pick and choose the service areas  where they will offer Medicare Advantage plans.

A good example of this is Coventry. They know that their competitive advantage is in major markets where they have a solid network of providers.

If you live in one of these markets it’s worth your time to take a look at Coventry Medicare Advantage plans. Coventry Medicare plans boast some attractive features if you are looking for a low or $0 premium.

Coventry Medicare Advantage – it’s all about the provider network

Coventry only offers Medicare HMO, HMO-POS and PPO plans. Coventry Medicare was once a major provider of PFFS plans but ceased to offer these plans a few years back. This is the major reason you will not find Coventry offering Advantage plans in rural markets. It’s too difficult to put together a credible network and remain profitable.

In Coventry Medicare Advantage plans are available in AR, FL, GA, IA, IL, KS, MO, NC, NE, OH, PA, SD, TX, UT and WY. Coventry also offers Part D plans nationwide branded as First Health Part D.

Aside from a Medicare Advantage plan’s Summary of Benefits the provider network is generally the most important plan document you should review. When you research the Coventry Medicare Advantage provider directory you should look beyond whether or not your primary doctor is included.

Before you enroll in a Coventry plan take some time to explore the depth of the provider network for specialists as well as facilities including hospitals you may need to frequent.

Benefits of Coventry’s Advantra plans

As with any Medicare plan, benefits are to be measured in the eye of the beholder but there are some common features that are generally desirable to most people.

Benefits vary by specific plan and/ or County. Benefits include:

  • $0 premium plans in all markets served
  • Low copayments
  • Many plans have a lower maximum out-of-pocket amount
  • Extra benefits including; dental, vision, hearing, as well as others

If you are already a member of a Coventry Medicare Advantage plan take some time to review your Annual Notice of Change that details all changes for 2013 plans.

If you are considering changing plans or are new to Medicare take some time to compare Coventry plans to other Medicare Advantage plans you may have available.

Review these plan documents to find the best plan for your circumstance:

  • Summary of Benefits – lists all details of a plan including costs
  • Provider Directory – ask your provider if they belong if not in directory
  • Plan’s Part D Formulary – lists all covered drugs and tier placement

If you are interested in a  Coventry Medicare Advantage plan be sure compare plans during the Open Enrollment Period which begins October 15th  and runs through December 7th.

  1. I would like to change from my first health part d to you new value plan a37599538711209m can I do this on line or do I have to call Thank you Don Lombardi

  2. Donald, You should have no trouble enrolling online. Visit the Coventry First Health Part D website and choose Find a Plan in the upper right of the page.

  3. What is the cost of the value plan, and does this include mail order?
Also, CVS is in network, but listed as non-prefered…what does that mean?

  4. JoeB, The First Health Part D Value plan has a premium of $25.60. Mail order is included. You will pay a higher copay at a non-preferred pharmacy. Visit the plans website for completer information.

I WAS CHECKING ON THE CO PAY ON VESICARE 5MG ONE DAILY.I HAVE FIRST HEALTH PART D VALUE PLUS PDP.MY 2012 FORMULARY LISTS IT AS A TIER 2 DRUG,25% OF THE TOTAL COST.I WAS TOLD MY PLAN WILL NOT COVER THIS RX.COULD YOU CHECK THIS OUT AND LET ME KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON.IT IS LISTED IN MY 2012 FORMULARY AS A TIER 2 PREFERRED BRAND DRUG .THANKYOU

  6. Barbara, The easiest way to get a credible answer on whether or not Vesicare 5mg is covered by First Health Part D Value Plus is to contact your pharmacy. If it’s listed in the formulary it should be covered.

  7. What changes were made in the Advantra health plan for medicare in April 2012?

  8. Franklin, Because the benefits for Medicare Advantage plans can vary widely based on the plan chosen and region where it was obtained, you should contact your agent or call the Coventry Advantra customer service number on your card.

  9. My blood pressure med is a generic for Lotrel. It is Amlod / Benaz 5-10 mg caps. I now have to have my Dr. order the two meds of the above separately instead of getting both in one cap in order to have coverage under your advantage plan. This may seem a trivial question, but what sense does this make? My copay was $70. for my original prescription but if I do the two prescriptions my copay is $6. for each med. I’m confused as to the logic of this.
    thanks,

  10. Where can I find a list of Drs who will accept your plan?

Also your drug rates seem to be higher than other programs I’m looking at?”? Why???

  11. Lewis, This site is not owned by Coventry.

  12. do all doctors accept Coventry Advanta plans and are they accepted in Grant Co. Ar.
and what all does it cover, or where can I look. I have never heard of this before.

  13. Millie, Start with a search for plans in your zip code at medicare.gov. Find the Advantra listing and click the link to go to their website. You should find a doctor look up tool or link to a provider directory on the Coventry site.
